Tips and Tactics

Consider this list of Tips and Tactics. Take what you like. Leave the rest.

Remember that you are trying to persuade through the art of arguing using various skills to convey your point of view.

Always present your roadmap at the beginning of each speech and use it to defend you position. This will help the judge to follow your arguments.

Summarize and explain your position at the end of each argument in your own words.

Flow your opponent's argument issue by issue so that you can respond to any disadvantages raised and not drop and inportant points.

Respond with factual information to highlight advantages and make comparisons using evidence cited.

When responding, say which of the opponent’s cards or arguments you are attacking

Use Cross-ex time to confirm information, a point or review a comment needed in order to better present your case. Never confront or appear combative. This is not a fight.

Remember that the art of arguing is a skill.

Have fun. Discover your unique style and ability.

Punctuate rebuttals with a strong closing. This appeals to the judge.

Be polite, courteous and will mannered. Ask for prep time when you need it. Keep track or ask the judge how much prep time you have left.
